Squirrel Wood Code of Conduct 2024

a) All Emergency incidents MUST be reported to the Duty Wardenas soon as possible so that the site can impliment an emergancy action plan and clear access for emergency services.

b) An AED (Defibrillator) is located in the main toilet block, please ensure that it is only accessed in an emergancy.

c) In the event of a fire in the Lodge or other buildings, follow the Emergancy Evacuation Plans found in all buildings and proceed to the assembly point.

d) All groups Remain responsible for accounting for their participants and must do a fire register.

a) All accidents must be reported to the Warden, with an accident report completed before departure.

b) The site has limited first aid facilities and groups are expected to make their own provisions.

c) Doncaster has an Accidents and Emergancy unit a few miles away from the campsite (Directions are available from our main reception).

a) The campsite, buildings and equipment are for the benefit of all users and no building area, and piece of equipment will be held specifically for the use of any individual or group, exept for Squirrel Wood Lodge and the Forrest Cabin/s when hired.

b) All group Leaders/ Representatives should report to the Reception upon arrival with their compulsory “Group Registrations Form” and again 30 munites Before Departure, to request a site inspection or building handover.

c) Groups are requested to inform the Warden if they are leaving site for off-site activities and of their time of return, during their stay.

d) All accounts must be settled prior to departure.

e) Weekend access to the site is from 4pm Froday to 4pm Sunday. Please note access before or after these times must be arranged prior to attending camp and may incure an additional charge.

f) Guns of any descriptionare not allowed within the wood, with exeption to Campsite air rifles used understrict instruction in dedicated range.

g) Leaders’ dogs are to be always on a lead and under full control, and any mess cleaned up immediately.

h) Any consumption of recreational drugs is not permitted.

i) No private tuck shops allowed on site.

a) In view of the site’s isolation, normal secuirity precautions must be taken when camping. All equipment and personal belongings that are on site are the owners risk.

b) All site users are asked to wear group neckerchiefs/ Scarves or other means of identification during their stay. People on site without identification may be challenged and asked to leave.

a) Band instruments, radios ect. may be played provided noise is not a nuisance to other campers.

b) All Campers/site users are requested to consider others and refrain from excessive noise between23:00hrs and 07:30hrs.

a) the sale of alcohol is not permitted.

b) The consumption of alcohol is permitted in moderation and only ithin the area of the groups specific site and not in the presence of any underage members.

c) Anyone found drunk or groups with no responsible adult to cover doty of care requirments will be excluded.

d) Under the “The Smoke Free (Premises and Enforcment) Regulations 2006” it is against the law to smoke or vape in enclosed public places and workplaces. This includes Marquees and tents at camps or activities. Adults wishing to smoke should set themselves aside a designated smoking area that is not enclosed and preferably out of site of influential under age members.

a) At all times, please ensure that the tracks and turning area is clear for the emergancy services to use in an emergancy.

b) The campsite speed limit is 5mph and must be observed at all times.

c) No vehicles will be allowed onto camping areas or parked on the side of any tracks and entrance gates with no exception of unloading/ loading essential camp equipment but NOT personal equipment.

d) all trailers will have to be man handled on to sites as we have a policy of no vehicular access, should assistance be required, the site landrover, driven by staff may pull trailer onto site.

e) Parking arrangments maybe implimented by the Warden at short notice, please follow any instructions given.

f) vehicles  must be parked in car parks.

a) Site requests will be given on first come first serve basis, if however due to weather or oher activity requirments, staff have the right ot alter this provision at short notice.

b) Fires:
   i) Altar fires are provided, and these must be used if cooking on wood or backoods cooking.
   ii) Trench Fires are allowed on site, but at the use and location will be at the wardens discression.
   iii) Un-burnt wood should be returned into the wood or the designated woodpile and not left on site edges or against the alter fires.
   iv) Fires must be fully extinguished before leaving and any ash removed from the alter fire.
   v) All Grills or portable alter fires must be returned to the storage area.

c) All rubbish must be burnt as far as possible. All un-burnt rubbish must be bagged and placed in the large ing proveded on site neer the car park.

d) Wetpits must be dug on the perimeter of the site,neer the ditches, if possible, filled in, and marked appropriately on leaving. It is preferred that other provision should be made

e) Generators:
   i) Generators are allowed with adequate storage of flammable fuels, all lighting to be adequate and safe.
   ii) Generators must be turned off between 23:00hrs-07:30hrs.

f) Periodic inspections  of the sits will be carried out by camp staff, any requests should be followed to ensure a safe, clean,and friendly enviroment. There will also be a handover inspection prior to leaving.

g) All camping will be in accordance with the Camping Standards of the Scout association.

h) The toilet block is not for washing of camping utensils or clothing/ footwear; site users should ensure their own prevision for this

i) the toulet block is provided with lighting throughout the night and should not be used as a meeting place or venue for any activity other than what it was designed.

a) No felling, cutting, or marking trees is permitted.

b) No Saws or axes are permitted in the woodland area.

c) No chainsaws are permitted to be used on site with the exceptionof staff members with apropriate permit.

d) Removal of dead wood fro trees is permitted with apropriate equipment and adequate adult supervision.

e) Any bashers, shelters erected in the wooded area should be dismantled and the area left to its origional state.

a) If the lodge is used, all equipment must be left in a clean condition

b) Toilets, Bedrooms and kitchen must be cleaned and the building swept out. Please leave it, as you would hope to find it.

c) A fire drill may be required by the Duty Warden, in the event of the fire alarm sounding, follow the Emergency Evacuation Plans as diaplayed unlessadvised otherwise by Duty Warden

d) Beds in the dorms must Not be moved

e) The Thermostat and heating settings must not be altered by guests, if you require a change of heating settings please contact the Duty Warden.

f) the COSHH cupboard must be locked between uses.

g) A ‘Handover book’ will be supplied with instructions and standard operationg procedures to aid in your stay.

a) Adults must attend instructor led activity sessions to supervise their participants, the instructor is responsible for the ctivity being conducted

b) Guns of any description are not allowed in the wood with exception to campsite air rifles used under strict instruction by qualified instructors in a dedicated range.

c) Air Rifle sessions are restricted to ages 8+ unless given specific permission by the Site Warden.

d)Archery Sessions must be conducted on the designated range with a qualified instructor .

a) Special Permission must be sought from the camp manager before any airal drone flights.

b) Drone Pilots must be respectful of other site users and should plan flights with this i mind.


a) No equipment may be left on site prior to or after your camp, except by prior arrangement.

b) All site equipment is to be returned to its collection point and stored in a reasonable condition or as instructed by the camp staff.

All Campers and Visitors are requested not to leave litter of any kind, but to keep the site clean, attractive and safe for everyone.

These ruels are intended to provide a safe and enjoyable enviroment for all site users. Serious breaches may lead to exclusion.
